The world knows that Bing has been unleashed. That's the kind of power Microsoft has over global Internet communications. Just the rumor of a new Microsoft product spreads like wildfire. Now, Microsoft is taking on the biggest name on the Internet – the Google search engine powerhouse.
About Bing
Bing is Microsoft's replacement for its Live Search product. The engine has never been very popular with users. If you own a blog or website, few search results ever came from Live Search. If Microsoft wanted to contend, it needed an easier interface more known to users and easier to use. While Live Search gave results, Google always had the market on a streamlined interface with no annoying ads or side products. Google made it easier for users with just a click of a button.
Although Google is simple, Microsoft is doing what it always does by adding features to an existing platform. Bing brings a fancier user interface for search engine users. Bing has a side panel bar that enhances your search with related and history links relevant to your search terms.
Bing also has categorized searches. For instance, if you search for "cars," Bing produces results in categories like parts, manufacturers, repair, and accessories. Bing also gives you a quick synopsis of results, although this is also available through a Google search.
To add to its algorithm, Bing also has a section for frequently asked questions. Clicking this link shows you answers to common questions from other people. It also lets you save your searches for future use, making this feature great for music, travel, and information you need frequently.
Of course, Microsoft had to incorporate popular mechanics of Google.
There is also a section to search for images and videos, and it incorporates algorithms for local and geographical searches. To add to all these features, Bing has an area where you can search for the cheapest travel prices like airfare and car rentals.
Will Google Win the Fight?
Bing has a long way before it will ever be the Google of the Internet. Microsoft always packages its products with pretty graphics and user interfaces that mask problems. Although Bing will likely surpass Yahoo, Google still holds the key to some of the best search functions. For search users, Bing promises to have better algorithms, but Google has the tools more relevant for webmasters.
Google holds a plethora of tools and APIs available to users who want to incorporate search engine functions with their website. Their tools allow large businesses to analyze website traffic and keep track of visitors.
Google also has Adwords and Adsense, which is a large portion of their attraction for advertisers. Their webmaster tools still hold the market for complete functionality for tracking online marketing dollars. Google still holds the market for many of the functionalities that Bing still fails to utilize.
Bing may have the allure for the end user, but Google still holds a stronger value for webmasters. If you want a pretty interface and graphics, use Bing for searches. As a webmaster, Google is still king of searches. Evaluate the options yourself and decide which titan is best for you. Whichever engine users choose, the battle between the two biggest names on the Internet will be quite a fight to watch.
